Three days after being picked up by security forces, Detective Branch police on Sunday produced lawyer Asad Uddin at a Dhaka court. Asad Uddin is on the defence team of Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Maulana Motiur Rahman Nizami in the war crimes trials.
Asad was produced in the afternoon at Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court by police who asked for 10 days remand for further investigation.
His lawyer Abdur Razzak informed that a hearing on his remand and bail could be held on Monday in the CMM court.
While speaking to risingbd news media, Abdur Razzak stated,“ Asad Uddin was brought to the court in the afternoon. His hearing on remand and bail may be held tomorrow Monday at 10:30 am.” However, he was unable to inform on further details of the judge who would preside over the proceedings.
On October 22nd, police twice raided the Mohammadpur house of defence lawyer Shishir Monir in the evening. On the other hand, detective branch of police picked up another defence lawyer Asad Uddin after raiding his house at Kaddar Mor towards east side of Jamuna Bridge at 2 pm afternoon on the very same day.
In a press briefing held the next day, Asad Uddin’s family claimed that police refused to record any General Diary (GD) entry when the family approached the law enforcers to file a complaint in this regard.
