Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed the authorities concerned on Sunday to confiscate the land and property of the culprits involved in destroying land documents by torching land offices, reports BSS.

“I have already asked the intelligence agencies to track down the criminals involved in setting fire to the land offices and I am now giving order to the authorities concerned to confiscate land and property of those culprits,” she said.

The Prime Minister also said the land and properties of those destroying land documents by torching (land) offices would have to be confiscated.

“There won’t remain any rights of those culprits to the land and properties of their father and grandfather and they won’t also be allowed to stay in their locality. We must take stern action against them,” she said.

The Prime Minister gave the directives while addressing a function on the occasion of the 40th founding anniversary of Islamic Foundation and the National Imam Conference at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city.

Her directives came as a large number of land offices were torched by the criminals in different parts of the country in the last three months amid frequent general strikes and the ongoing transport blockade being enforced by the BNP-led alliance.

The Prime Minister said the BNP-Jamaat terrorists were killing innocent people including pregnant women and children by pouring petrol and hurling bombs. “The vehicles carrying cows, chicken and vehicles are not being spared from their heinous acts,” she said.

She said it was unfortunate that when Bangladesh had been recognised as a role model of development in the world, the BNP-Jamaat was unleashing militant acts and burning people to death in the country in the name of hartal and blockade.

Religious Affairs Minister Principal Motiur Rahman chaired the function, while Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Religious Affairs Ministry Bazlul Haque Harun was present as special guest.

Secretary of the ministry Dr Chowdhury Mohammad Babul Hasan delivered the welcome address and Director General of Islamic Foundation Shamim Mohammad Afzal highlighted the activities of Islamic Foundation.

At the function, the Prime Minister handed over prizes among the best Imams and the winners of the National Children-Juveniles Cultural Competition.
