A local leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League has abducted the daughter of Dhunat unit Mahila Awami League general secretary Sultana Jahan from Dhunat in Bogra on Saturday morning. Sultana has filed a case with Dhunat police. She said Bhandarbar union unit Chhatra League leader Mehdi Hasan had abducted her daughter, a student of Manik Patal Dakhil Madrassah, on her way to hospital to see her ailing mother.

Dhunat municipality councillor Al Amin Tarafdar, also uncle of the victim, said Mehdi had waylaid his niece and whisked her onto a CNG-run autorickshaw and took to unknown location.

Police had brought Mehdi’s mother Sharifa Begum to trace whereabouts of the victim.

Dhunat police officer-in-charge Ziaur Rahman said they were trying to rescue the victim and arrest the abductor. Locals said being a Chhatra League leader, Mehdi had access to Sultana’s home and became close to her daughter. He got angry at the refusal of his advances to the girl.
