BSF gun down Bangladeshi on Lalmonirhat border


Indian Border Security Force shot to death a Bangladeshi cattle trader and injured another one near Burimari checkpost in Patgram of Lalmonirhat early Thursday. The security force personnel of Changrabandha camp under 61 BSF Battalion of Cooch Bihar district in Pashchimbanga also took the body away.

Lalmonirhat 15 Border Guard Bangladesh Battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Bajlur Rahman Hayati said they have already sent a letter this morning protesting the killing on the border and sought repatriation of the body.

BGB also asked BSF for a flag meeting, the CO said.

The victim was Antar Islam, 27, son of Aminur Islam, a resident of Railway Colonypara in the upazila. The bullet-wounded Raju Islam, 28, son of Mahidul Islam, was admitted to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital this morning.

BGB sources said a number of six to seven Bangladeshi cattle traders were returning home along with a dozen of cattle heads through the border’s Masterbari point near demarcation pillar number 843 in the early hours today. The patrolling BSF men opened fire on them leaving Antar dead on the spot.

Bullet-hit Raju and others managed to return Bangladesh.
