Body of Juba Dal activist found beside Jessore rail track after being picked up in Dhaka

The body of an activist of Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal, also a member of Khedapara union council in Jessore, was found beside rail track at Manikdihi in Jessore in the morning. The diseased was identified as, Mesbahuddin Chantu, 40, member of Khedapara union council and activist of Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal of Manirampur in Jessore.

The victim’s elder brother Ruhul Kuddus Montu said Chantu was arrested by police on Tuesday at Dhaka and brought him to Jessore afterwards. Killing Chantu in their custody, the police left his body abandoned beside the rail track on Thursday, he added.

Montu claimed it was planned killng.

Manirampur Municipality mayor, Shahid Iqbal Hossain, also BNP upazila unit president, said Monirampur police handed over Chantu to the detective branch at around 8:00am on Wednesday after bringing him from Dhaka to Jessore.

Anisur Rahman, Jessore superintendent of police, shrugged off the responsibility of the killing and claimed since the body was found beside rail line, it was under rail police’s jurisdiction. While asked about the allegation against the detective branch of police, Anusur said the Chantu was not arrested by any branch of the district police. Meanwhile, Moniruzzaman, officer in-charge, detective branch, Jessore said he was unaware of such incident.The body was sent to Jessore Medical College Hospital for post mortem examination.
