BNP Activist Killed in Rajshahi Police Firing

Police in action: Determined to hinder the ongoing protest by any means

Rajshahi, Jan 5 (UNB) – A BNP activist was killed as police opened fire on a procession of the BNP-led 20-party alliance at Baneshwar in Charghat upazila on Monday afternoon.

The victim was identified as Mazid Uddin,45, an activist of Soua union unit BNP in Charghat upazila.

Witnesses said police obstructed a procession of BNP-Jamaat men brought out marking the ‘Democracy Killing Day’ in the area and opened fire to disperse them, leaving Mazid dead on the spot and 50 others injured.

Confirming the death, officer-in-charge of Charghat Police Station Khandaker Golam Mostafa said Majid was killed in a clash between police and BNP activists.

Meanwhile, district unit BNP called a daylong hartal in the district for Tuesday protesting the incident.

Office secretary of BNP district unit Golam Mostafa confirmed the matter.
