BCL men attack SCF activists at JnU

Bangladesh Chhatra League activists attacked Samajtantrik Chhatra Front activists who were holding a sit-in at Jagannath University in the capital on Friday against evening course in different departments of the university. Witnesses said at least six protesters of SCF, a left-leaning student organisation, were injured as ruling Awami League-backed BCL activists, led by JnU BCL economics department unit president Siraj Joy, attacked them in front of the department gate, while the protesters held demonstrations, locking the gate around 9:00am. The injured were identified as SCF university unit press and publicity secretary Krisna Barman, office secretary Prosenjit Sarker, assiatant secretary Irin Sultana, school secretary Shamit Bhawmik, activist Animesh Roy and Shoriful Islam. They were taken to the nearby hospital. Subrata Mondol, a reporter of online news portal, also received threat from the BCL men as he went to the spot to cover the event. SCF university unit president Masud Rana alleged that the Chhatra League men attacked their activists and marred the peaceful protest, leaving six of them inured. However, Siraj Joy denied the allegation and told New Age, ‘We, students of the department, only pave the way for our teachers to enter the department, while SCF men locked the department gate.’ JnU acting proctor Noor Muhammad told New Age, ‘None attacked the SCF men.’
