BCL leader’s house torched as JL leader killed


A group of ruling Awami League activists set fire on the house a Chhatra League leader at Sharsha upazila in Jessore on Monday as a local Awami Juba League leader succumbed to injuries he sustained in an attack on Sunday night. Upazila unit Juba League organising secretary Tuzam Uddin, 40, was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital after miscreants attacked him at Nabharan Bazar on Sunday night. Following his death, a group of Awami League activists set fire to the house of Sharhsa upazila unit of Bangladesh Chatra League president Abdur Rahim. Aggrieved activists also blocked Nabharan-Sathkhira road in the morning. Sharsha upazila unit Awami League joint secretary Ibrahim Khalil said that four houses including the house of Abdur Rahim was set on fire in the morning. Sharsha police officer-in-charge Shahidar Rahman said that Tuzam’s father Sirajul Islam filed a case accusing 12 men including Abdur Rahim of killing Tuzam. Shahidur said that the situation was under control in the afternoon. More police were deployed in the area.
