Motiar Rahman was a third year student of the department of philosophy at Dinajpur Government College. A youth of 23 years of age, Motiar was popular among his friends and neighbours for his kindness and good character. He was popular in the college for his cheerful appearance with his laughter, jokes and lively chats with friends. But sadly, Motiar’s home at South Nasratpur village under Chirirbandar sub district of Dinajpur district, Bangladesh is now a place to mourn. Abdur Rahman, Matiar’s father is still in the throes of agony from losing his son.
The reason Abdur Rahman had to lose his beloved son Motiar so early and tragically is that Motiar was an associate member of Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS). He used to pray five times a day, advised others to pray and maintained Islamic practices in his life. As the leader of a local branch (Ranibandar branch) of ICS, he was poplar for his social and charitable activities during fatal cold waves in the region. For months Police partisan to Awami League has been torturing and killing these religious and dynamic youth of ICS mercilessly and without any reason. Motiar a young man of 23 became a victim of this notorious extrajudicial killing spree of the terrorist police force.
In the evening of 14th February police arrested Motiar and shot him at his hands and legs on the spot. After a while he was taken to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital. There Motiar went through surgery and doctors declared that he was not in danger anymore. However, police insisted on taking Motiar to Dhaka for further treatment and released him from the hospital at midnight. Then on the way to Dhaka Motiar was repeatedly tortured and finally killed by the police in custody. After killing Motiar, police took the dead body to the hospital.
We have lost Motiar but his spirit will be with us forever. May Allah accept him as a martyr and grant him the highest place in Jannah.
