AL Will Have to Retain Power at Any Cost: Law Minister, Quamrul


State Minister for Law and joint general secretary of Dhaka City Awami League Advocate Quamrul Islam asked party leaders and workers to get ready with all means for the next election as AL will have to retain power at any cost.

Addressing the Dhaka City AL Executive Council meeting at the party’s central office at noon on Thursday Quamrul said, “Many parties retain power through many means, but we’ll retain power through election and I hope the opposition parties will also take part in that election.”

Pointing his focus to main opposition BNP’s movement for restoration of the caretaker government system, Quamrul said, “This is basically a tool of the opposition to hinder the trial of August 21 grenade attack case and war crimes trial of the opposition alliance leaders.”

Answering a question on money laundering case of Tarique Rahman, he said, “I don’t want to talk anything about Tarique Rahman, He has already been given enough privilege and even more than what actually he deserves. Law will take its own course against anybody who ever he might be – whether it is Tarique or anyone else.”

Pointing to leaders and workers of Dhaka City AL, he said, “Only around six months are left for the election, so create election environment and prepare each ward, units and thanas for the election by boosting organizational power and present all the good things and achievement to the people for faring well in the election.”

At this point he also called for holding gathering of citizens and elites in all thana units throughout the month of June. For organizing this event, he also called for holding an extended meeting of presidents of all Dhaka city units on June 2.

The meeting was presided over by Dhaka City AL acting president MA Aziz. Among others AL general secretary Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, vice-president Mukul Chowdhury, joint general secretary Haji Md Selim, Awlad Hossain ,organizing secretary Shahe Alam Murad were also addressed the meeting.
