Police in a drive held 97 people from a Dhaka-bound train in Sadar upazila of Tangail district on Saturday on suspicion that they might involve in terrorist activities.
All the detainees got into the train from different stations of northern districts to come to Dhaka.
In a bid to deter people from reaching Dhaka by Sunday, police suddenly conducted a drive in ‘Padma Express’ from Rajshahi at Tangail Railway Station around 6:30am and detained the 97.
Contacted, Tangail Police Super Saleh M Tanvir said they had information that the detained men may be members of militant organizations.
All the detainees were kept at Tangail Sadar Police Station and the district police lines for questioning, the SP added.
Meanwhile, no long-route bus left Tangail for Dhaka this morning.
Besides, all types of train which were moving towards the capital from northern districts returned from Tangail canceling their Dhaka trips.
