5-storey bldg tilts in city’s Rupnagar

A 5-storey building tilted towards the adjacent building in the city’s Rupnagar on Friday, with panic gripping the residents in the area as the incident came to light in the morning.

When contacted, Senior Station Officer of Mirpur Fire Brigade Abdullah Al Arif said they were informed at about 4:30 pm that house no-47 of road no-20 in Rupnagar residential area has tilted towards the adjoining 5-storey building, UNB reports.

However, no casualty was reported, he said, adding that “we already asked the inmates of the two buildings to leave immediately to escape any possible calamity.

DMP assistant commissioner (Pallabi Zone) Kamal said the 5-storey building at road no-20 in Rupnagar began tilting towards the adjoining 5-storey building very slowly since Friday morning.

“We received the information at noon and took steps to vacate the two buildings,” he said.

“Most of the residents have already vacated the tilting building,” AC Kamal said. “We’ve already asked the residents of the other building to leave immediately,” he added.
