At least five leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir were killed in firing by joint-forces at different places at Debhata and Sadar upazilas of Satkhira district early Monday.
Many sustained bullet injuries while members of joint-forces team arrested nine.
Three of the deceased could be identified immediately. They are: Jahangir Hossain, 25, a Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami activist and a resident of Satani village in Sadar upazila, Abdur Rouf, 32, Reazul Islam, 35.
Besides, the joint-forces also allegedly set fire to several houses Padda Shakhra and Shaksipur areas.
