5 crude bombs found in DU

At least five crude bombs were recovered from a toilet at the Arts Faculty Building and Mokarram Bhaban of Dhaka University on Tuesday at 10.00am as the university is holding its 49th convocation.

Students covered four abandoned cocktails inside a toilet on the ground floor of the Arts Faculty building, said Sirajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station.

Informed, a team of bomb disposal unit of Detective Branch (DB) rushed to the spot and disabled those bombs around 11:00am, the OC said.

Later, the bomb disposal team recovered another handmade bomb near the entrance of Mokarram Bhaban, which is close to the university’s playground where the convocation ceremony is going on.

No one was arrested in this regard.

The convocation is being held at the campus premises in presence of President M Abdul Hamid, also Chancellor of the university.

Almost 6080 students consisting of 3367 male and 2737 female of the university and its affiliated institutions have been conferred with the graduation degree and awards through this convocation.
