At least four people were injured as gunfight and clash took place at Bidyut Bhaban beside the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka on Tuesday morning over submitting tender bid.
Ruling party-backed groups clashed over bid submission for two construction projects of Dhaka Power Distribution Company, said police and DPDC officials.
Police rushed to the spot and rescued one of the injured, Mamun-or-Rashid, took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and then took him to Shahbagh Police Station.
The projects are extension of 33/11 KV substation building at Tejgaon and development and construction of boundary walls in 132/33KV GIS substation at Madartek involving about Tk 75 lakh.
The deadline for the tender submission was 12:00pm on Tuesday, security supervisor of the building Abdul Halim said.
He said two groups, backed by Chhatra League men, were locked in a clash around 11:30am and traded fire.
Bullets were shot near the stair on the first floor of Bidyut Bhaban and they hit a car of Ahmad Kaikaus, additional secretary of power division.
Earlier, Talukdar Group and Tanvir Constructions submitted two bids each while Mahbub Alam Constructions submitted a bid for one construction work, he said.
DPDC officials said five tender bids were dropped in the tender box till Tuesday noon.
When asked, he said police were investigating the matter although no one filed a complaint in this regard till 4:30pm on Tuesday.
DPDC officials, including the managing director Md Nazrul Hasan, declined to comment over the matter.
