A mobile court sentenced three women to 3-7 days imprisonment on charges of violating the election code of conduct in the city’s Kamrangichar police station area on Tuesday.
Officer-in-charge of Kamrangichar police station Mohsin Alam said three women–Setara Begum, Shilpi Begum and Hosne Ara– were violating the code of conduct in favour of BNP supported Ward-56 councilor candidate Nayeem at Mojiburghat of Borogram under the police station at noon.
Police detained them and recovered leaflets alongside Tk 25,000 from their possession when they were trying to buy votes in exchange for money, the OC said.
Later, a mobile court sentenced Setara Begum to 7 days in jail, and Shilpi Begum and Hosne Ara to 3 days each under Section 6-9 (C) of the Election Rules.
