Shahbagh police on Friday afternoon released three plainclothes cops detained on charge of extortion on early Friday from Shahbagh area.
The three police men — Pallabi police sub-inspector Ananda and two constables and a car driver — were detained allegedly for extorting Tk 20,000 from one Sona Mia in Shahbagh intersection.
Sona Mia said that the plainclothes team picked him up in their car on early Friday and took away Tk 20,000 from him.
Later, he was released in Shahbagh intersection and he shouted for help.
A team of Shahbagh police rushed there and detained the four and took them to the police station.
The Shahbagh police, however, released the four on Friday afternoon, said Shahbagh police officers.
Shahbagh police officer-in-charge Sirajul Islam said that it was a misunderstanding and they did not receive any allegation from the victim.
Pallabi police officer-in-charge Syed Ziauzzaman, however, told New Age that they were taking action against the three cops.
Asked about the action, he disconnected the phone call.
