14 shops of BNP activists torched in Comilla

Dhaka, BdChronicle:

Fourteen shops belonging to activists of BNP were set on fire allegedly by a group of activists of the local unit of Awami League at Dadghor Bazar in Monohorganj upazila on Monday night.

Affected shop owner Harun-ur-Rashid, an activist of BNP, said a group of local AL and BCL leaders and activists brought out a procession from where they set ablaze his ‘Al-Madina Super Market’ around 8.00pm.

In the fire, his seven shops and seven more shops owned by other BNP activists burnt down.

On information, a fire fighting unit from Laksam rushed to the spot and doused the fire.

Abdul Hai Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Monohorganj police station, said they were primarily informed that the arson attack had been carried out over attacking an activist of AL.

Border Guard Bangladesh, police and fire service later brought the fire under control.

The loss caused by the fire was estimated at Tk 20 lakh.
