There are over a thousand abandoned government owned properties across the country, Housing and Public Works Minister Mosharraf Hossain said.
Of the 10,313 houses, 992 were sellable and another 138 were already sold, he told the Parliament on Monday.
Answering to a query from Mahjabeen Morshed, he said there were 5,028 ‘Ka’ category houses and 1,439 ‘Kha’ category in Dhaka and Narayanganj.
Among the houses, 4,782 were enlisted for sale and 215 for conservation, Awami League Presidium Member Hossain said.
Among the abandoned houses in Dhaka and Narayanganj, 66 were illegally grabbed and 999 were facing lawsuits.
Selling of another 1,487 houses was under process, the minister said.
In Chittagong, 174 houses were enlisted for conservation and 179 for sale.
Of the 228 houses in Rajshahi, the government sold out 133 houses and the rest were rented out.
Out of a total of 108 government owned houses in Lalmonirhat, four were sold, he said.
Out of seven houses in Natore, one was sold to a martyr’s family, two were facing lawsuits and another was sellable.
Besides, government has 1,363 abandoned houses in Khulna, 507 in Kushtia, 378 houses in Dinajpur, 280 in Bogra, 223 in Nilphamari, 123 in Pabna and 92 in Jessore.
The minister said there were another 16 government owned abandoned houses in Chapainawabganj, 30 in Naogaon, 13 in Sirajganj, 27 in Chuadanga, three in Comilla, four in Sylhet, 42 in Rangpur, 17 in Kurigram, nine in Thakurgaon, 21 in Gaibandha and one each in Jaypurhat and Bagerhat.
