At least eight BNP-Jamaat activists were injured and 10 of their houses vandalised in an attack allegedly by Awami League activists at Jumaikhiri village in Atgharia upazila on Friday morning.
Witnesses said the trouble began after some unidentified miscreants torched the straw heap of an Awami League supporter at the village around 8.30 am.
Then ruling party men turned violent when it was announced in mikes that BNP and Jamaat men were behind the incident of torching.
Later, several hundred Awami League supporters attacked the 10 houses belonging to BNP and Jamaat activists around 10am.
The attackers vandalised the houses and looted valuables, said the witnesses.
They also beat up the house inmates, leaving eight injured.
On information, police and Rapid Action Battalion members rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
